We discussed the possibility of Boykin being a good fit for Carolina just last week. He could slide right into the Panthers available nickel CB spot. Maybe the Panthers saw the results of the poll in that previous piece discussing Boykin.
Report: Panthers to host Brandon Boykin | theScore.com
Carolina will be the first of four teams Boykin will visit, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Boykin recorded 25 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and an interception while playing in all 16 games with the Pittsburgh Steelers last season. The 25-year-old is considered one of the top free agents available. Boykin specializes as a slot cornerback, and would be deployed in nickel and dime packages were he to sign with the Panthers.
So let's hope being first means the Panthers get first crack at getting him to sign on the dotted line. He made $1.5M last season so it's not going to cost big money. So even if we pay him more than he made last season he could be a steal.
I don't want to see him leave without a deal signed. I'm thinking he is coming here first for a reason. Get it done G-man!
