First up is the guy we've all had our eye on.
Best NFL free agents remaining: Still talent left to be signed
5. S Eric Weddle: An all-pro in 2014, he slumped last year while dealing with injuries and what seemed like season-long divorce proceedings from the San Diego Chargers. Still, Weddle is an accomplished veteran at a position that could be tough to fill via free agency or the draft.
He would slide right in the starting line up at safety and we would never look back. Come G-man, I can appreciate your patience to this point in time but at least bring him in for a visit.
I'm not sure why the Packers let him walk but we need a slot CB and this guy is young and has proven he can play at a high level.
7. CB Casey Hayward: His ability to play in the slot could make him a more attractive option to some teams than a big corner like Smith.
I think this next guy would shine in our defense:
12. DE Chris Long: The kind of player you want in your locker room. But he's got just four sacks the past two seasons, missing 14 games in that span.
I just can't see us paying him the kind of money he probably wants to be a rotational player. Also how do you throw a big $ contract at Long after playing hardball with CJ? I'm curious what Long is asking for. He made $12.5M last season and given he's still out there says he's not going to get that much. But how far will he drop? Mario Williams $8M a season seems a good benchmark, maybe even a little high.
This Gettleman would go $5M a season?
