Cam Newton has made it a point to use his superstar status in the NFL to do good works, especially when it comes to working with children. Yesterday, Nickelodeon announced a new series called "I Wanna Be" (working title) where the Carolina Panthers star quarterback will help kids from around the world pursue their dreams.
"Time in the spotlight has made me realize the importance of creating positive messages to inspire the next generation," Newton says. "I'm very passionate about mentoring young people, and this show will be the perfect opportunity to help talented kids get the chance to pursue their dreams."
The episodes will be filmed in the NFL offseason, and the show is currently slated for a 20 episode run. Details are scant at this point about the actual focal point of the series, but it appears that Newton will be connecting kids with professional mentors to assist them in learning about how they can make their aspirations a reality, such as spending time with broadway actors to learn about the theatre business.
I Wanna Be is produced by "Magical Elves" the same group who produces the shows Top Chef and Project Greenlight.
All I know is, when I was a kid... I just wanted to be on Nickelodeon's GUTS and climb the AgroKrag. These kids get to hang out with Cam Newton and other major players in their area of interest. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me.
