Well the wait is over. The Panthers know who they are facing week 2 at quarterback.
Earlier this week Bill O'Brien would not name a starting quarterback after a week one loss where they fielded both Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett (after benching Hoyer). Hoyer finished the game 18 completions out of 34 attempts with a touchdown and two turnovers. Ryan Mallett looked a little better in a small sample with 8 of 13 and one touchdown. Then, this afternoon news broke from Ian Rapoport that the Texans had finally decided on a quarterback.
The announcement shouldn't really change the game plan that much, as both Mallett and Hoyer are your typical pocket passers who on very few occasions will scramble for extra yardage. Mallett was so-so last year before getting hurt, throwing 41 of 75 for 400 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Mallett appeared to have good chemistry with DeAndre Hopkins in limited action on Sunday, so Josh Norman will have some work to do.
On an aside note, boy is it nice to have Cam Newton! What do you think Panthers fans? Did the Texans make the right call? Will it affect the game?
