Panthers sign CB Cortland Finnegan

New, comments

The Panthers have added a veteran to their secondary to fill the void left by an injured Charles Tillman.

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

The Panthers have filled their vacant roster spot that was left when long snapper Danny Aiken was waived after not being needed as a fill in for J.J. Jansen on Thanksgiving by signing veteran cornerback Cortland Finnegan.

The move was necessary after Charles Tillman suffered a knee injury a few weeks ago and appears to need more time to recover than previously thought. Colin Jones has been unable to sufficiently operate in the slot after Bene Benwikere moved to the outside to replace Tillman, so a move for a better option was needed.

Most people remember Cortland Finnegan as the guy who was punked by Andre Johnson a few years ago, but he's a pretty good corner and should fit in nicely with the rest of the Panthers secondary. Finnegan has spent time with the Titans, Rams and Dolphins in his nine year career and has played in one Pro Bowl (2008).

At this time no other roster moves are necessary as the Panthers were at 52 men on the roster due to releasing Aiken. Stay tuned to CSR for any developments in this story.
