Panthers at Ravens: Final Injury Report

New, comments

Both the Carolina Panthers and the Baltimore Ravens will go into Sunday with injuries to some key contributors. For the Panthers most injuries have occurred at the same positions while the Ravens injuries are more scattered. Here's a look at the status and impact of some of the injuries.

Williams is back in the lineup this week, and should be the bell cow.

Ravens Injury Report

Name Position Injury Wed Thu Fri Game Status
Canty, Chris DL Knee DNP DNP DNP Questionable
Daniels, Owen TE Non-Injury -- DNP FP Probable
Jernigan, Timmy DT Knee DNP DNP DNP Out
Monroe, Eugene OT Knee DNP DNP DNP Out
Pierce, Bernard RB Thigh FP FP FP Probable
Smith, Jimmy CB Knee/Ankle DNP FP FP Probable
Smith Sr., Steve WR Non-Injury -- DNP FP Probable
Suggs, Terrell OLB Thigh DNP DNP FP Probable

The Ravens could be thin on the defensive line this week with Timmy Jernigan already out and Chris Canty set as a gametime decision. This bodes well for the Panthers as they struggled to run the ball against a strong front last week and could not stop the pressure on four man rush. With Baltimore being thin in the defensive interior this could open up the run game between the tackles. Canty is a starter on the defensive line and Jernigan is the Ravens second round pick backing up Haloti Ngata.

Left tackle Eugene Monroe will also be out for this game, and UDFA James Hurst will start in his place. Mario Addison has been on an absolute kick in the pass rush department, and will look to capitalize on the rookie making his first start. If the Ravens are forced to devote extra help to protecting the blindside this could be Charles Johnson's opportunity to earn his Big Money (see what I did there?).

Panthers Injury Report

Name Position Injury Wed Thu Fri Game Status
Cotchery, Jericho WR Thigh FP FP FP Probable
Davis, Thomas LB Hip DNP LP LP Questionable
Godfrey, Charles CB Ankle DNP FP FP Probable
Harper, Roman S Knee DNP FP FP Probable
Stewart, Jonathan RB Knee DNP DNP LP Questionable
Whittaker, Fozzy RB Thigh DNP DNP DNP Doubtful
Williams, DeAngelo RB Thigh FP FP FP Probable
Williams, Garry OT Back DNP DNP DNP Doubtful

The Panthers are really getting beat up at running back. The injury report doesn't list Tolbert as he has moved to short term IR, so the Panthers currently have 4 of 5 backs either injured or on the report. Jonathan Stewart is listed as questionable but the sense I'm getting from reports is that he won't play, or if he does it will be on a very limited basis. That would leave DeAngelo Williams and UDFA Darrin Reaves as the only options on the active roster. The Panthers flew under the radar and signed Tauren Poole back to the practice squad this week, but he won't be seeing the field unless this bug continues. Look for Richie Brockel and the other tight ends to pick up full back duties, and start DeAngelo Williams in fantasy.  Cam is still hobbled, so Williams should be the bell cow until one or both of the other "Four Horseman" are healthy.

Thomas Davis is listed as questionable but the coaches are optimistic that he can play after two limited practices this week. Davis is a big part of the defense and Luke Kuechly's partner in crime, so the Panthers are better off if he can go, even at 75%. If he can't go, the Panthers will use Chase Blackburn and AJ Klein to alleviate his absence. Cotchery will also return to the lineup this week, while Garry Williams is again out.
