As reported today by Panthers.com, Cam Newton has been released from the hospital and no additional injuries have been discovered or reported. Newton is reportedly sore, as expected, but moving well and excited to be out of the hospital.
There is no official word from the team yet regarding his status for this week's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tony Romo played through a similar injury recently, so there is precedent that Newton could play, however, I think it would behoove the Panthers to shut him down for the season. While the Panthers still technically remain in playoff contention, the likelihood of victory in the playoffs seems minimal compared to any potential damage to their franchise quarterback's health.
Crazier things have happened for sure, but I expect Newton to at least sit out this game and let Derek Anderson make his second start of the season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
What do you think, Panther fans?
