2013 Carolina Panthers Training Camp: Panthers release OG Geoff Hangartner

New, comments

In a slightly surprising move, the Panthers have cut ties with the veteran offensive lineman.

Welp, I don't think anyone saw that one coming.

The Panthers have announced that the team have decided to part ways with Geoff Hangartner, leaving a gaping hole at right guard on an offensive line that already has its issues.

The move has been confirmed by the team via Twitter:

If you watched Hangartner play in 2012 this move won't really be that big of a surprise, but if you consider that they don't have a healthy replacement on the current roster the move becomes a little more strange. The Panthers drafted a right guard -- Edmund Kugbila from Valdosta State -- in the 4th round of the draft back in April, but Kugbila has been limited in offseason activities by a hamstring injury. He has yet to step foot on the field since the team started training camp last weekend.

Hopefully this move is just the first step in some sort of master plan, because otherwise it is a questionable decision to cut loose the only healthy option you had at right guard.
