We all knew this was coming when reports surfaced late last night that Jon Beason was being traded to the Giants pending a physical in New York, but now it's official. The Carolina Panthers have traded Beason to the Giants for an undisclosed late-round draft pick that is projected to be a 5th rounder.
Multiple sources have confirmed the news, but here's a tweet from Kimberly Jones with the details:
Jon Beason passes physical, is acquired for late rd pick. Will participate in walk-thru tomorrow; not impossible he's active Sunday vs. PHL.

Even if the pick is lower than the 5th rounder many sources believe it will be, this trade is still a win-win. The Giants get some needed help at the linebacker position, and the Panthers get something for a player who was guaranteed to leave at the end of the year. Carolina will still have $8 million in dead money on their salary cap next season, but that's $2.5 million less than they would have had with Beason on the 53 man roster.
There are no reports of any corresponding roster moves to fill Beason's vacant spot on the 53 man roster, but once we have that information we will pass it along to you.
Cat Scratch Reader would like to thank Beason for his time spent in Carolina and wish him well in his future endeavors with the Giants.
