Though this game may have only featured a few solid draft prospects per the pundits I find some of these reports particularly interesting relating to the Panthers needs:
Rainey and Creer are undersized, but they were both shifty and fast and attacked every hole they were presented with by a ferocious offensive line, led by Brandon Brooks of Miami (Ohio) at guard, who may have improved his draft stock more than anyone else in the game. Other standouts for the West were CB Shaun Prater from Iowa and USC's DT DaJohn Harris, who were both impressive in holding the East to 17 points.
Brooks and Harris are unranked on Walter Football and Prater is a mid-round prospect. On the other side of the ball we might have a couple late round picks:
WR LaRon Byrd, from Miami (Fla.) also showcase an impressive combination of size and strength while catching a touchdown pass. Perhaps the best player on the East team, however, was Wake Forest's Kyle Wilber, who was a disruptive force in the backfield all game long.
Wilber is a 6'5" 240 lbs DE who probably better translate to a 3-4 OLB unless he can put on some serious weight.
More after the jump...
Think we need a late round QB int he mold of Cam newton? How about this guy:
B.J. Coleman has been perfect for the East so far, as the Tennessee-Chattanooga quarterback has hit six of six attempts for 136 yards. The big play of the touchdown drive was a pretty Coleman pass down the middle of the field to Chase Ford from Miami. He lofted it right down the middle and Ford broke a tackle to rumble for 64 yards. Ford had a quiet season for the Hurricanes but his catch has been the highlight of the first quarter so far.
Just two plays later, Coleman hit B.J. Cunningham from Michigan State for a 17-yard touchdown. Cunningham is a big strong back, and he took the short pass in the flat, turned the corner and broke right through a tackle to take it down the sideline for the score.
Now Coleman is not the athlete Newton is nor is he a threat to run very much at all. He does do some things well though so if he intrigues you here is some more info:'
Stats aside though, his tools and intangibles are what intrigue scouts. At 6'3, 235 pounds and in possession of a strong arm, he fits the profile as an NFL QB. From the scouting reports I've read, he has solid mechanics and good accuracy. He's got decent mobility for his size - though he's not a 'running' quarterback by any means, but his ability to get outside the pocket and throw on the run.
BJ Cunningham is a 6'2" 215 lb (think Dwayne Bowe) senior WR from Michigan St who logged 1300+ yards and 12 TDs in 2011.
