According to Shockey's Facebook just a few seconds ago:
Looks like I'm signing with Carolina. Time for the Next chapter. This is a great opportunity for me, and I am excited to play football. Lets hope we all have the chance to play this season.
The 6'5", 251 lb Shockey gives a solid target for the Panthers quarterback, whoever that may be. I had a feeling when we heard Shockey was taking a physical that we would extend the offer, it just made too much sense on too many levels with the links to Chudzinski, our need for a true threat at TE and his relatively low price on the market when compared to some of the deals getting thrown around (Sorry- 4 years, $22 million for Owen Daniels is too much). While it's unlikely you'll see Shockey here for any more than a year or two it does buy the Panthers time at the TE position, presumably so they can look to invest a 2012 1st rounder in the position, because as it stands the impact TEs are few and far between in the 2011 draft.
I really like the move, as you know... but what about the community as a whole? Are you happy to have Jeremy Shockey as a Carolina Panther?
After the jump- Shockey's career stats
UPDATE: The deal is for one year, per sources.
