Anderson agrees to terms with Cardinals

I doubt the team really had any interest in him and I didn't think much of him, but if you thought Derek Anderson was a reasonable pickup as a backup or potential competitor to Moore. Instead, he'll battle with Matt Leinart to become the new leader of the Cardinals aerial attack.

Czar: Watch for trade market to warm up

Hey TO fans...think he's worth $5 million? That's what he's demanding at minimum. I somehow don't think that's a reasonable deal for an aging, slow receiver with poor hands.

The Panthers didn't sign any qualifying players, so they will receive a comp pick for each qualifying player lost. They should get a fifth or sixth for Geoff Hangartner and a sixth or seventh for Frank Omiyale. There is a small chance that Mark Jones also will qualify. If so, the Panthers would get a seventh for him.

http://adamjt13.blogspot.com/2009/12/early-comp-pick-projections-for-2010_21.html --AdamJT13, compensatory pick predictor extraordinaire Although the NFL has never released the formula for awarding compensatory picks (it's known to include the length and amount of contracts awarded to FAs as well as playing time and postseason honors), this guy has been predicting and nailing the results for years. In his most recent edition, he got 26 of the 32 picks exactly right and was off by just one round on two more. So he knows what he's doing. I will note, though, that Jones is unlikely to net us a pick, because he played in just three games for the Titans before hitting IR.

Free agent prize peppered with potential pitfalls

Well, we've already seen one of Peppers' former competitors (Ross Tucker) call him out for his lack of competitiveness and effort. Now the Boston Globe has done an article detailing similar claims with even more quotes from former teammates as well as scouts, one of whom suggests that signing Peppers to a big-money deal could "end up costing some personnel guy his job." The same scout fears that "if you pay this guy, I don’t think you’ll see a double-digit sack [season] again the rest of his career." Interesting commentary for a player worshiped here by people who have been fans of his for years, some since even high school.

Without Gross Extension, Peppers Would Have Hit the Market

Apparently, Jordan Gross was told in negotiating his long-term deal that if an agreement had not been reached, he would have received the franchise tag for a second consecutive year. The reasons included the lower price and the difficulty in replacing a stud LT on this years FA market relative to a DE. Boy, that sure would have shaken up the offseason, and probably prevented a lot of headaches.

So begins the Off-Season

Another part of the season ends, another part begins. Contract signings should start taking place any day now as we grow closer to the key date of Feb. 27th
