Panthers Sign Free Safety Terrence Holt
The Panthers continue their roster overhaul as they have now signed another free agent, former Cardinals safety Terrence Holt:
Holt (6-2, 208 pounds) started all 16 games at free safety for the Arizona Cardinals last season and led their defensive backs with 75 tackles. However, it was missed tackles and missed interception opportunities that caused him to fall out of favor with the Cardinals, who released him Feb. 21.
Washing out of Arizona does your career no favors but apparently Panthers GM Marty Hurney thinks Holt just needs a fresh start. Nobody likes missed tackles or dropped interceptions so if he continues that in Carolina he will get buried on the bench quick.
"Terrence is a very smart, talented player who brings experience to our safety position," said Carolina general manager Marty Hurney. "We've liked him since he came out of college and feel very fortunate to add him to our roster."
This move takes a little pressure off to draft a free safety early in the draft. I'm not sure Holt is the answer at the position long term but he has to be an upgrade from what we have right now. Another good move in my book.
