Raiders Sign WR Carter; Giants sign QB David Carr

The Raiders signed former Panthers WR Drew Carter.

The signing of the 6-3, 200-pound Carter comes on the heels of the six-year, $55 million deal Oakland gave Javon Walker on March 6.

The two moves have helped shore up a position that was left thin after Jerry Porter signed with Jacksonville. Prior to signing Walker and Carter, the Raiders had just one receiver - Ronald Curry - under contract with more than six career catches.

With Curry and Walker on the roster I don’t see Carter more than a #3 in Oakland. Maybe carter will put it together in Oakland. He’s always had the size and speed to be productive but has lacked consistency.

This places added emphasis on acquiring another free agent WR, like DJ Hackett, who is paying the Panthers a visit today. Hackett almost becomes a must at this point but I don’t want to encourage that we overpay. I would pretty good if we went into training camp with the following receiver corps: Smith, Moose, Hackett, Jarrett, Robinson and a 3rd or 4th round draft pick.

The Giants signed former Panthers back-up QB David Carr

"I have a lot of calluses," Carr said. "I'm like an old carpenter I've been through it. If you let that stuff affect you, you're not going to be able to do your job. One of the reasons I'm excited about coming here is they protect the quarterback well and they have playmakers on the outside."

I’m sure Steve Smith enjoyed the last part of that comment. The calluses are probably on his happy feet as he rarely did his o-line any favors by getting rid of the ball quick enough. As I’ve said before David Carr seems like a down-to-earth type of guy who just needs to find a better situation for himself. Good luck to you.

I’m surprised the Panthers haven’t signed a free agent veteran QB. This is no diss on Matt Moore its just that’s the way the Panthers typically operate. They prefer vets over young guys to back up key positions.

What is going on?  So we let Colbert go.  I was glad about that.  He could be a good #3 somewhere, bnut not Carolina.  But we don't resign Carter after he outperformed Jarrett last season, and after Jarrett blows a .12 on his DUI.  Well I hope we sign Hackett or maybe draft a burner in the middle rounds.  Maybe we let someone else return kicks, keep Robinson on punts, and then use him in the slot some times.  I don't know, but we must have a lot of confidence in Jarrett.  I do believe he's going to learn a lot from Moose, and that Moose is not as washed up as people think he is.  Gross couldn't throw the ball in Chicago, and that's why everyone is leaving.  Welcome back, Moose, again.

do me a favor

Hey Jaxon,

The military has me at some random school so it's been hard to keep up.  I was wondering if you could post a blog listing all of our transactions to this point, and maybe what each one means.  From what I've seen, I think OT is still our first rd pick, and we have enough picks to give up some picks and trade up to get the right guy.  It also looks like a pass rusher might be a priority.  We're solid at most every other position, but it seems we have to scream for a safety every year.  We'll see what happens.

I'll see what I can dig up
I like the best OT available at #13 unless DE Derrick Harvey is still there. I would also take either of the primo DT's Ellis or Dorsey is they should somehow fall. Fat chance I know. I don't think any other defenders that fill a need are worth the #13 pick.
