Scouting Combine Rumor: Panthers to Sign Muhammad

Just pulled this off Draft Daddy: the Panthers will announce the signing of WR Muhsin Muhammad on Monday.

Also, we heard the Carolina Panthers will likely announce the signing of wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad to a deal Monday (one year, $1.5 million).

When I ran a poll on this very topic my readers weighed in pretty decidedly. We are in favor of signing Moose but only if its at a good price. I think a one year deal for $1.5M is pretty reasonable. I think this is a good move by the Panthers, a veteran WR who knows the organization and will be a mentor to the young guys Ryne Robinson and Dwayne Jarrett.

I'd still like to see the Panthers draft WR Andre Caldwell in the 2nd or 3rd. I know he's brash and arrogant, qualities that will probably scare off the Panthers, but I love his moxie and big play ability. Get Caldwell and the Panthers have upgraded their receiving corps tremendously.

Keep Moose Away

Moose has hands like concrete, he's old, and there are other receivers out there in FA that could help us and still stay young.  But he can help block down field.  I am not even sold on this guy coming back even at a league minimum.  So what if he is a good communtity guy,  We need football players.  He didn't do too much while he was with the Bears.

I'm not sure

how I feel about Moose. The free agent pickings are slim unless you're ok with spending a ton of $ (Moss, Stallworth, J. Walker).

He was signed by the Bears expecting to be a #1 receiver and that's just not his game. He's a #2 at best and now #3. As a #3 I got no problem with him. If the Panthers expect him to be #2 they are mistaken.

To Moose Or Not To Moose

Not sure if you saw this... Hands Of Brick.

I like Moose as a player, I like his attitude, his toughness, and his aggression when it comes to blocking. But, there's this one special thing that receivers have to do above all others: catch the ball. You're paid to be a "Receiver", that means you have to actually collect the passes that come your way.

I've seen Moose drop a lot of passes. A lot of passes.

Now, I like Stallworth as a #2 receiver, always have. He's fast, smart, and has pretty good hands. Now, maybe he's just another version of Drew Carter, but better on the long ball. I could live with that. I'm just not sure what kind of money we'd need to put out to reel him in.

Welcome Back

Im very happy to see him come back. I think "Moose" has alot left in the tank. But it wont make any differance who the Panthers have at TE, WR, RB, FB, If they don't have an O,Line.
And right now the line they have is just not tough or quick enough to go much beond 8 n 8 if that.

That's why I see a tackle as the choice
  1. It's a safe pick
  1. It's a glaring need
  1. It's a critical position to protecting Jake (ref. Wharton 9 sacks in '07)
  1. There will 2-3 dominate left tackles available at #13 which is rare.
