Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Bucs Maul the Panthers 20-7

In what was one the worst offensive performances by a Panthers team in years, the Tampa Bay Bucs not only took control of the NFC South they smacked down the Panthers.

David Carr hardly looked like an upgrade from Chris Weinke. This game did nothing to establish any confidence going forward. But I don't think the blame rests solely with Carr. It looks to me like the Panthers are running the same plays as the previous three weeks and do not show any creativity. They have let Steve Smith get taken away from them and have no one else stepping up. The offensive line had a terrible game as penalties and turnovers were a killer.

The defense gave up two quick TD's and did little to help themselves early. Kris Jenkins had a good game but otherwise they had no answer for the Buc running game and the scrambling of Garcia.

This game leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Could that be the crow I'm eating right now? I stated I wasn't worried about Carr but I should have been. The Panthers should have changed the offensive game plan for him to include more screens and more designed roll outs and runs.

Offensive MVP: None
Who had a good game on offense? Foster played decent but his fumble ended any momentum the Panthers had at the time. No one else did squat.

Defensive MVP: Kris Jenkins
He was getting penetration all day long.

NO it was the WORST.

The secondary looked like a bunch of blind farmers chasing chickens around the barnyard.

The offenseive line looked like over growen slouths on sleeping pills. More than once this year.

I was not happy about Carr becomeing a Panther, however I figured someone smarter than I, new what they were doing. Well the Panther's don't have time play around. Box Car!!!! Thats right box him up and ship him out. Next

John Fox, I think you are a great Coach,  you have done so much for the Panthers in the past. Maybe you are a bit board with Charlotte's sky line. Im a bit board watching the Panthers run the same plays (that don't work) over and over.

Steve Smith, nice try, good effort, Just remember that when you point a finger at someone you have five pointing back at you. How meany have you droped this year?

I could go on and on but what would it matter. It is becoming apparent to me that the Panthers don't care about the home croud anyway. They play better on the road. But don't expect a win next week in NO. Panther team I saw today will would lose to most of the "Big 10" teams.

Sad to see so much tallent with no heart.

No other horse but Carr
If Delhomme can't go then he's all we got. I'm not happy with the play calling. It has no creativity what so ever. We went long on the first play and didn't try again until 4th and 1. WTF was that!

play calling

Last year Jake was throwing 20-30 times a game, but not too much.  Then in Weinke's first start, he throws 61 times.  What sense did that make.  Well this season Jake is throwing very well, taking time to get his rhythm, and playing very well.  Carr comes in and his first start includes 41 pass attempts.  How much sense does that make?  Jake threw it 41 times against Houston, but that was his most since 2004.  So why does Carr have to shoulder the load like that?  If we have no confidence in our running game, then we need to make changes.  I say we bring in Marty Schottenheimer or Bill Cowher next year if this stuff doesn't change quick.

the game
It was horrible, but it wasn't a total surprise.  Are Matt Schaub and Joey Harrington great QBs?  They looked like it against our secondary.  Our secondary is awful.  They'd be better if we had a defensive line that is worth something, but Peppers already said sacks are overrated.  He has none this year.  I think Morgan means more to our defense than anyone could know or quantify.  Get McGlover in there if he thinks sacks are more important than Rucker and Peppers say they are.  As for the offense, I'm not surprised by that either.  I've said a lot of positive things coming into the season, but it always bothered me that Braylon Edwards said opposing defenses always knew the play the Browns were gonna run before the snap because it was so predictable.  And so we make that offensive coordinator our savior from Henning?  One thing you gotta recognize, though, is that three games Delhomme had a 101 QB rating and 8 TDs to 1 INT.  His stats may have been inflated because of Steve Smith's YAC stats, but David Carr could not get it done.  In the words of the infamous TO, I say "We'd be undefeated if we had Brett Favre."  If Delhomme has surgery and is out for a month, we may be a month from our next win.  And Peppers is losing money on his next contract every week.  Maybe next year Charles Johnson and McGlover are our starting DEs.  Where is Al Wallace when you need him?  Why don't we have Marlon McCree, Daniel Manning, Will Witherspoon anymore?  And is Ryne Robinson so great that we're not gonna let him return kick-offs until next year?  In other words, what the hell is going on?  If the team as a whole is a mess, especially with our talent, then it's the coach's fault.

Something has got to change on D

Notice that we finally started blitzing Marshall towards the end and it worked. Why haven't we been doing that before?

I'd rather see D-Will return KO's than Goings. At least then we have a chance at a big return.
