Hold the Pro Bowl in London, not the Super Bowl
I saw the headline and spit out my coffee. Roger Goodell wants to move the Super Bowl to Europe!
"There's a great deal of interest in holding a Super Bowl in London," Goodell told reporters Monday. "So we'll be looking at that."
Are you out of your mind? The Super Bowl is an American Icon and is the reason for all existence. That would be like building Chevrolets in China or buying apples from Brazil. Ok...maybe those aren’t good examples. Seriously, we can’t let the #1 sporting event in history leave our borders. Is nothing sacred? What’s next, William Hung singing the "Are you ready for some football!" song on Monday Nights?
A better idea is to hold the Pro Bowl in London. It’s a win-win. It puts all of the NFL’s stars in one place for their adoration and the spreading of the NFL gospel worldwide. Ratings couldn’t help but go up in all markets but Hawaii.
It’s a win for the players because it doesn’t have to be held in Hawaii, London or anywhere else. Let cities bid on it like the Olympics. NFL players just might get all expenses paid trips to Monte Carlo, Paris or Sydney. (Ignore the time difference for now, I’m on a roll) Imagine Julius Peppers poling a boat around in the waterways of Venice. Or Kris Jenkins sumo wrestling in Tokyo. Better yet, Steve Smith salsa dancing in Rio. Dare I say it? Jon Beason probably wouldn’t mind a free to trip to Madrid.
Its a win for all the media types who cover such an event. Hell, I can think of few bloggers who might actually get a passport to cover the game (while being paid of course).
Forget about moving the Super Bowl out of these fine United States. Take the Pro Bowl instead (and give all the players one get-out-of-jail free card!).
It’s a win-win Roger. You better listen.

this is absurd
Remember how the Chargers played in New England? It was a cross country trip, and they were exhausted, and even more so flying from there back to SD on Sunday and then leaving on Saturday for GB. Well travelling to away games is just part of the schedule, but jetlag can make for sloppy play. To make sure no one has an advantage, the Superbowl is played on a neutral field. A superbowl in London would suck. The teams would be jetlagged and trying to just get used to the time difference. And then what time would the game be? If the game is played at 8pm, that would be what...3pm on the East Coast. So if you live in LA, you'll watch the game at noon. How much sense does that make? Or the players could just play later, like 2am, so we could watch it at 9pm on the east coast. Maybe everyone who wants to go to the game will have Monday off. Can you imagine a SUperbowl where the majority of fans in the stands are NOT Americans - the people who pay full price for preseason games and even more for NFL Sunday ticket and the NFL network. After all that, then they take the Superbowl away? It's just dumb. I think the Pro Bowl should stay where it is and more preseason games should be played in Europe. Let people in another country pay full price for preseason tickets. Okay, the truth is I only have one solution, keep it the way it is.
Move the Pro Bowl
A really stupid idea about moving the Super Bowl game, one of our national traditions and institutions.
But Jaxon, a great idea for putting the Pro Bowl up for bids worldwide. It's boring to most American fans anyway, but would be very exciting to the rest of the world, perhaps their only opportunity to see our great players in person. Now if our players can only go there and act like they're civilized.
There was a time when the Pro Bowl was really meaningful, with the players fully engaged. That was when the AFL and NFL first merged. Both leagues and their players had something to prove, and there were real wars in the trenches. It was a battle of pride.
