Panthers Peppers Has Super Secret Hand Injury

Typically in the NFL when a player gets hurt the specifics of the injury are detailed within a few days using such descriptors as sprain, strain, pull, aggravated, slight tear or even the dreaded broken. Usually I say, because sometimes a team just decides to not give details.

We know Panthers DE Julius Peppers left the Falcons game with an injured hand and returned sparingly. He played the following week against the Dolphins with his hand bandaged. Still no word on what specifically is wrong with his hand, just this:

Inside the Panthers: Fox still circumspect about Peppers' hand injury
"I could say," Fox said Friday after Peppers played mostly on passing downs in a 24-17 loss Thursday against the Miami Dolphins at Bank of America Stadium. "But I probably wouldn’t."

Fox is blazing new territory with his verbal 'no speak'. When exactly would he not say what the injury is? At some future press conference when he is asked about the injury...again? What about the interview he was actually in? Pondering this brought poetry to my finger tips...

So could you, would you, Mr. Fox?

Could you, would you, in a sky box?

Would you say whats wrong with Peppers hand?

Would you, could you John I am?

So here is my theory:

Panther Paw Prints - Dolphins Loss Edition

Miami Dolphins' Tyrone Culver (29) knocks down a desperation pass in the end zone as Carolina Panthers' Dwayne Jarrett (80) reaches in vain at the end of the Dolphins' 24-17 win in an NFL football game in Charlotte, N.C., Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009. (AP Photo/Chuck Burton)

This edition of Paw Prints has the sour taste of a loss all over it. Let's take our medicine Panther fans.

Key Moments - CharlotteObserver.com
Facing third-and-goal from the Miami 7, the Panthers fail to convert a third consecutive pass play, leading to a field goal. Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter beats left tackle Travelle Wharton to sack Jake Delhomme, who's previous two passes from the 7 were incomplete.

This is the series causing all the heat on OC Jeff Davison. 1st and goal and we attempt to throw the ball three times? He will be hearing abouth this one for a while. My second biggest concern from this loss was the continued poort play from our kick coverage, which gets an unearned 'C' grade from the Observor.

Panthers Report Card - CharlotteObserver.com
SPECIAL TEAMS Grade: C Comment: Miami's superb kickoff returner Ted Ginn Jr. had a big day against a Carolina kickoff unit that has struggled much of the season. Ginn had returns of 37 and 48 yards. Panthers punt returner Captain Munnerlyn let a punt go without a fair catch that wound up costing the Panthers quite a few yards. Punter Jason Baker appeared to shank a low punt near the end of the first half. It went only 34 yards and resulted in a 22-yard return. Baker bounced back and later had a punt downed at the 7. Carolina rookie Tyrell Sutton looked sharp as a kickoff returner. He had returns of 31 andd 29 yards.

Munnerlyn has let too many balls hit the ground this year resulting lost yardage; another issue I blame on coaching.

Breaking Down the Key Plays in Panthers' Loss to Miami

Thursday night's game against Miami was similar to Sunday's game against Atlanta. It was an even game, and it was decided on about a dozen key plays: Turnovers and third-down plays, especially in the red zone.

On Sunday the Panthers made the clutch plays, while their opponent did not. Thursday night, however, the reverse was true. Miami scored touchdowns on two of three jaunts inside the 20, while Carolina went 0-for-2. The Panthers committed the game's lone turnover -- a Delhomme interception -- and it occurred in the red zone. Miami, meanwhile, fumbled twice but recovered both fumbles.

The story of this game, though, was the third downs. Carolina converted only 3 of 13, failing on six consecutive third-down attempts stretching from early in the second quarter until early in the fourth. Miami converted 7 of 15, including four in a row in the second quarter. Those four conversions, along with consecutive stops on Carolina third downs, allowed Miami to turn a 3-0 deficit midway through the second quarter into a 14-3 lead at halftime. The Dolphins did not trail again.

Here is a look at those six key third-down plays:

Panthers Harris: My Thoughts on the Dolphins Game

Chris-harris-vs-dolphins_medium

Hey, hey, Cat Scratch Reader!  Currently, my official blog is on LockerBlogger.com, but I wanna share a few things with you guys over here every once in a while.  If you want, check me out at the following address to hang out daily...

My LockerBlogger Blog

--------------------

Oh man... what a tough loss last night.  We had a chance to win it - we really did - but we just didn't play the way we should've played.

In the first quarter, we played well defensively, but after that, we couldn't really get off the field on the 3rd down.  There were just too many long drives on us.  Obviously, the game didn't unfold the way we planned it to, so this one's definitely a tough pill to swallow.

Now we're even further behind the eight ball, sitting at a record of 4-6.  We could have been back at .500, with our playoff chances looking much sweeter, but the season's not over yet.  We still have six games left, and each one of them are going to be a dog fight.  We don't have any room to spare, so we're pretty much gonna have to play a one game season from here on out.

The mood in the locker room stinks of disappointment, and now we have three whole days to sit around and think about last night's loss before we get back to practice on Monday.  But, you know... we'll get over it and move onto the next game with our heads held high.  The Jets are next, and we fully plan on making sure that game isn't a replay of last night's.

Good morning Panther faithful. Time to be optimistic! The weekend is almost here! That is all... just kidding.

Consistently inconsistent is a moniker that suits the Carolina Panthers organization perfectly from top to bottom. I've also referred to this phenomenon as ‘Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde'. Essentially it's become impossible to predict what the Carolina Panthers will do from week to week; something works perfectly one week, then we abandon it the next, we dodge a bullet one week, then paint a target on our chest the next... and unfortunately it looks like it's going to keep happening until some people lose their jobs and there's an air of change in Carolina.

Was it all bad though? Let's break it down further after the jump...

Dolphins Run Past Panthers 24-17

Miami Dolphins' Ricky Williams (34) runs past Carolina Panthers' Richard Marshall (31) and Julius Peppers (90) on a 46-yard touchdown in the second half of an NFL football game in Charlotte, N.C., Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009. (AP Photo/Rick Havner)

Ricky Williams scored three TD's and Panthers QB Jake Delhomme threw a key red zone INT as the Panthers folded when inside the 20 yard line. This game leaves me frustrated by tow of the same things the Panthrers have struggled with all season. QB Jake Delhomme's propensity to throw bad passes late in the game ends another Panther comeback. Poor play calling on 3rd down and in the red zone put the Panthers in the hole to begin with.

I'm not going to recap the numbers on offense, you can check the box score here. What you will see is two teams who generated similar levels of offense over the course of the game, but one team was able to finish their drives and the other could not. One defense was able to bring the pressure on the QB and the other could not (4 sacks to Zero). One defense was able to get a red zone turnover, the other wilted down the stretch.

Dolphins vs. Panthers Game Day Open Thread

Welcome to Thursday Night Football Panther fans! We are on the national stage yet again Panther fans and this time we get a match-up with the slimy fish from Miami. You might remember we played the fish in Miami during the preseason in which we let the fish have their way with us knowing it would make them over confident for this game.

Tonight will be a different story. The sly 'Ol Fox that is our coach wasn't about to show the fish anything regarding our schemes and formations. They might think they know what to expect but I'm sure the Panthers will have some new wrinkles for them (I hope).

So there you have it. This is now an Open Thread!

Go Panthers!

No worries Panther Fans. It's just a minor bump on his car. Steve Smith is not injured. Word is that he's helluva pissed though, watch out Miami!
