Muhsin is an Arabic name meaning ‘giver’ or ‘charitable’ but most Panthers faithful know the all time great wide receiver simply as ‘Moose.’ Much like Brad Hoover the crowds called out Muhsin’s nickname so often TV announcers had explain to audiences that the chorus at home games was not booing (usually) but the moniker held by one of their favorite players.
Muhammad played with Carolina 11 of his 14 years, spending three years in Chicago where most Panthers greats spend at least a few seasons of their careers. (see Greg Olsen, Julius Peppers, Ron Rivera). In his final season of Carolina play before being traded, Moose tallied 1,405 yards and 16 TDs shattering his previous performances. He was twice selected to the Pro Bowl and played in six playoff games with a single Superbowl appearance as a Panther. In Carolina, Moose contributed 9,255 yards receiving and 72 TDs.
Those that saw him play know Moose was a defining character in what Carolina liked to do on the field. At 6’ 2” he played bigger than his size, with more heart than most receivers outside of Smitty. Those that didn’t get to see the show live can enjoy these highlights:
