1. Temple LB Haasan Riddick will be a first round pick? True
On the heels of his strong Senior Bowl, Reddick is starting to get mocked in round one, including by both CBS Sports draft experts (Rang and Brugler), and SB Nation's Dan Kadar. Reddick has a unique skill set, having spent time as a DB, LB, and edge rusher.
2. Connecticut S Obi Melifonwu will be drafted before Jabrill Peppers? False
NFL.com's Lance Zierlein just released his first mock of the year. One of the biggest surprises was him mocking five safeties in the first round, adding Marcus Williams and Melifonwu to the usual suspects.
While draft stocks are often volatile, and Peppers' stock has fallen nearly as quickly as Melifonwu's has risen, I am not ready to predict kind of change. Peppers NFL Combine performance should be equally as impressive as Melifonwu's is expected to be.
3. Villanova DE Tanoh Kpassagnon will be drafted in the top-50? False
I am not ready to put Kpassagnon up there quite yet. When I watch players against St Francis and South Dakota State, it is hard for me to get excited when their offensive lines don’t even have players that will be drafted by the Canadian Football League.
Kpassagnon dominated from the weigh-in through practices and into the game. Mike Mayock compared Villanova DE Tanoh Kpassagnon to Bengals’ DE Carlos Dunlap.
I have a feeling that this white-hot flame gets extinguished before the end. Shawn Oakman (2 months before his character concerns came to light) was similarly impressive during the Senior Bowl weigh-ins last year. Once you get to 6’7-6’8, you simply can not play with any type of leverage. While he still may be considered a “freak athlete” I expect a slowish 40-yard dash, and poor times in the 3-cone and short shuttle drills.
4. NFL Teams are scared of Florida State RB Dalvin Cook? True
Miller tweeted "Based on what I'm hearing, off-field and shoulder injuries for Dalvin Cook are scaring teams right now." Three shoulder surgeries over the past four seasons plus an arrest for allegedly assaulting a women will do that.
5. Nathan Peterman will be drafted in the top-64? False
That is what The Sporting News' Eric Galko tweeted.
Nathan Peterman's film didn't win me over. But I reviewed/charted #SeniorBowl film.
Bet NFL teams want him Top-64: https://t.co/pXrPu4ryhA
— Eric Galko (@OptimumScouting) January 27, 2017
Galko says he personally didn't see Peterman as a second rounder, but appeared to predict he would be taken in the second round.
6. Will Alabama break the record for number of first rounders drafted in one year? False
PFF just wrote an article about whether or not Alabama has chance to break the record for most guys to go in the first round this year. Back in 2004, the University of Miami set a record with six players being selected in the first round of the NFL draft.
I think they’ll probably be right around the five-or-six mark. In order to break the record, it looks like both Tim Williams and Ryan Anderson needs to sneak into the first round. Williams likely will, despite some character concerns described as Randy Gregory-like, but Anderson probably remains a day-two pick.
7. Joe Mixon will be drafted in the second round? False
"The talented Oklahoma running back was suspended for the 2014 season after punching a woman in the face. Mixon, who I've graded as a first-round talent on the field, is a player teams are still digging on, but one scout I spoke with in Mobile believes he'll be drafted in the second round." - Matt Miller (Bleacher Report)
8. Iowa DB Desmond King is going to need to move from corner to safety in the NFL? False
No player in Iowa history has as many starts (51) as King. He also was the first Jim Thorpe Award winner ever to return to school, earned multiple first- and second-team All-America honors, and finished with 14 career interceptions.
His tacking production combined with a lack of elite speed, have some analysts suggesting a move to safety. More quick than fast, you can see his lack of a fifth-gear. I believe his best NFL position is as a nickelback (slot-corner). You can have him beat up somebody in the slot and he’s the best tackling corner in the 2017 class.
9. While I have done a few on Twitter, I will post one of my own hot takes here each week
Only four players from the 2016 Senior Bowl went on to be drafted in the first round. In 2017, it will be only TWO.
OJ Howard looks like a lock, but Forrest Lamp, Tre'Davious White, Cooper Kupp, Haason Reddick, Melifonwu are all potential day one picks.
