Reviewing Philly Brown's SB50 performance gives me some optimism for the WRs in 2016. Brown practically earned a roster spot with four catches for a team leading 80 yards.
Here's a couple catches from Brown for you to chew on. The knock on Brown in the past was he is a 'body' catcher, that he has a hard time catching just with his hands. Well this is definitely a hands catch while also high pointing the ball.
In double coverage no less. That is how the play action is supposed to work right there. A very tough catch by Philly who gives up his body and is lucky he doesn't get drilled. For a guy his size he appears fearless going up for the ball.
This next reception a 20 yard out pattern to the right side that he and Cam make way too easy. Like they are just playing toss in the backyard Brown is so open.
He totally sold the dig and left the SS Ward running the wrong way. I hope to see plenty more of that in 2016. Nice pick up on the stunt by J-Stew as well.
No play in the SB infuriated me more than this one where Talib throws Brown out of bounds by the facemask.
That is a dangerous play and should have resulted in Talib's ejection from the game. I'm serious, he could have seriously injured Brown and it was flagrant and unnecessary as hell. In all the talk about ejecting players for conduct this offseason I'm surprised this play was never used as an example. The fact they essentially lost only 1 yard as a result makes it that much worse.
Sorry to leave you on that downer note as I had intended to be uplifting but damn...[I'm having anger flashbacks now]
I'll instead leave you with this...Philly Brown is one tough SOB. He caught two more passes after that cheap shot including the 42 yarder. Brown was not intimidated one bit.
As you know we at CSR are counting down the days to that season opener / revenge match. We have a lot to be optimistic about.
