I mean I can dream can't I? In this scenario maybe Getts does go back to his Best Player Available strategy instead of the new hybrid need-based drafting he unveiled. So based on how the draft unfolded here's a more traditional Gettleman draft class. Feel free to post your own re-draft selections in the comment thread.
Round #1 Pick #30 - DT Vernon Butler
I don't think the Josh Norman situation affected the Panthers 1st round pick. As much as I would have preferred a pass rusher I have to stick with Gettleman on this one. If there is one thing he knows it's defensive linemen so I'm confident Butler will be the real deal.
Round #2 Pick #62 - OT LeRaven Clark
The Panthers add an OT that can develop into the eventual starter at LT. This is the pick everyone has been mocking to the Panthers for years. If you feel better about drafting Shon Coleman in this spot feel free to imagine that instead.
In my make believe scenario the Panthers don't trade up in the 3rd round, instead standing pat and waiting for their guy to fall.
Round #3 Pick #93 - DE Charles Tapper
In the 3rd the Panthers land the pass rusher they brought in for a private visit. Tapper is great value at this point and could get into the rotation as some point in the 2016 season.
Round #4 Pick #129 - CB Daryl Worley
Even if we had kept Norman I think the Panthers would have targeted at least one CB in the draft. So who's say if the Panthers had not traded up that Worley (or Bradberry for that matter) wouldn't have still been available in the 4th round? I'm betting they would have had their choice, in my dream scenario at least.
Round #5 Pick #168 - CB DJ White
I mean why not go ahead and get a second CB since even with Norman we apparently are lacking depth. White is very comparable to Sanchez. Honestly I'm not sure why the selected Sanchez over White but I'm assuming Sanchez is gone by the end of the 5th instead of the beginning of the 5th after the trade.
Round #7 Pick #256 - TE Beau Sandland
I'm thinking the Josh Norman scenario did not affect this pick either so I'm sticking with the original pick. I'm intrigued to see how this kid pans out.
So there you have my re-draft based on how the draft actually unfolded. Of course I know as soon as you change one pick it could affect every pick past that but hey, its make believe as I said. But all of the payers I re-picked were on the board with the exception of Worley (or Bradberry if you prefer) but it's not a stretch to think they might have still been there later.
So what would your re-draft look like?
