Panthers Sign Safety Trenton Robinson
Robinson spent the past three seasons with Washington, starting a career-high seven games and recording one interception in 2015. His season was cut short after a hamstring injury landed him on injured reserve, and he was later released. Robinson's career totals include 38 games played, 88 tackles, two interceptions and four passes defensed. He's also been a regular contributor on special teams.
Robinson played for $543k last season so this is nothing more than a roll of the dice for the Panthers in hopes of at least getting a good special teamer out of it. Of course he will get a chance to compete for playing time in TC but don't expect too much.
Robinson's signing pushes the total number of safeties on the Panthers roster to 6 along with Tre Boston, Kurt Coleman, Dean Marlowe, Marcus Ball, Colin Jones and Ras-I-Dowling (yes we signed him back in February to a future's contract). That tells me the Panthers might be set at the position for now, at least going into OTAs and then training camp.
