What can be said about #59 that hasn't already been said? Apparently not much.
As Luke continues to climb the ranks of his NFL peers, his segments keep getting shorter and less entertaining. As a rookie in 2013 the players voted him the 79th best player in the league and former teammate Jon Beason already knew Luke was the best middle linebacker in the game. In 2014 Luke won Defensive Player of the Year and made the jump all the way up to #15. That year he earned a very entertaining video that described him as possibly the Greatest Linebacker of All Time.
This year Luke continues his climb up one more spot to #14 on the players top 100 list. After watching his short video on the countdown, I'm left just wanting more Luke. My immediate reaction to his ranking was that the ranking was a little low, then I took a better look at the list. Luke came in ahead of Patrick Peterson, Darrelle Revis, Earl Thomas, and Justin Houston, which he should be. The only two defensive players ranked higher than Luke are Richard Sherman at 11, and J.J. Watt. Watt is the only defensive player in the top 10 and shows the the players in the league have a little more respect for offensive players. Of the top 20 players on the list, only six came from the defensive side of the ball.
With Luke sandwiched between Dez Bryant and Julio Jones, I am content with the #14 ranking. He certainly is among great company. My two questions are this, what would it take to get Luke into the top 10? And what would it take just to get Thomas Davis on the list?
