The pickings appear slim at the three positions the Panthers could use some veteran help: OT, WR and DB. My thinking is they roll the dice at WR yet again, as the Charlotte Observer staff suggests:
Receivers: Randall Cobb is the other priority in Green Bay along with Bulaga, so it's doubtful he'll hit the market after another solid season. Baltimore's Torrey Smith could come cheaper after a down 2014, and he has the size and skill to be the No. 2 receiver to complement Kelvin Benjamin. Jacksonville's Cecil Shorts also had a down year, though he was catching passes from a rookie quarterback. Shorts averaged 17.8 yards per catch in 2012 and was down to 10.5 yards per catch this season. Another bargain-bin player could be Dallas' Dwayne Harris, who has the speed and versatility for kick and punt returns as well.
My favorite of those discussed is Cecil Shorts and Dwayne Harris. I'm not sure of Shorts top end speed but he is a guy that can make plays downfield. Harris I would make a priority simply to return kicks. That position has to be a major focus point for the Panthers this offseason. It might be #2 priority after OT.
I also like a few of the DBs' mentioned in the linked post. Both Walter Thurmond and Kareem Jackson could play opposite Norman provided they are healthy.
I don't see us getting in a bidding war for any player though unfortunately. Gettleman may have more money to spend this offseason but he's not going to waste money taking a flyer on a player. Given the players most likely available I think we can shore up WR, CB, S and KR but a starting OT is going to be hard to find.
In summary I hope and pray the Panthers are able to address all of their needs in some fashion before the draft so they are free to pick true BPA. That said I think the pick is going to be another WR rather than an OT though I have nothing to base that on.
