After having a single carry and more importantly, fumbling on that single carry, Tauren Poole has been cut by the Panthers. He was signed last week to replace Lache Seastrunk on the practice squad (likely due to his knowledge of the Panthers' system) and was immediately put on the active roster when Jonathan Stewart was inactive due to a sprained knee.
The Panthers have expressed their desire to sign a veteran running back sometime this week, sooner being better than later. Some names to consider are BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Michael Bush. I personally lean more toward Michael Bush. I like a big, bruising back for the Panthers. They're (traditionally) a hit you in the mouth sort of football team and I think his toughness could be just what the doctor ordered for this flailing offense (and defense and special teams).
It's been a long time since we've had conversations about free agent running backs, so what do you think? Is there one you have your eye on?
UPDATE: The Panthers have signed Chris Ogbonnaya. He was previously with the Cleveland Browns. Last year he carried the ball 49 times for 240 yards, averaging 4.9 yards a carry. Hopefully he will provide a needed boost to the Panthers running game.
