Greg Hardy has been placed on the exempt/ commissioner's exception list which removes him from all football activities with the Carolina Panthers for an indefinite amount of time.
Ultimately it wasn't the league's decision or the Panthers, it was Hardy's. He elected to be placed on the list, which means this situation is over -- at least for now. Hardy will have his case decided by a jury in November and depending on the verdict it's unclear if he would return to the active roster or miss the remainder of the year.
In either outcome it's wholly possible Hardy's time as a member of the Carolina Panthers is over. Of course, that was likely at the end of this season prior to the arrest.
Hardy will continue to be paid by the Carolina Panthers while on the exempt list, meaning there will be no immediate cap relief for the organization. The defensive end rotation will continue to be Charles Johnson, Mario Addison, Kony Ealy and Wes Horton with Frank Alexander presumably returning to action soon after the league changed its drug policy Wednesday morning.
If you wanted this saga to be over you got your wish. The Panthers can now focus solely on the season and the questions will be over, at least until Hardy's trial is over.
