May as well put my two cents in for the final 53 roster:
QB (3)
Newton
Anderson
Webb
With Cam’s ankle I think the 3 QB talk is legit, at least to start the season. I would prefer that Newton gets very limited snaps in the preseason.
RB (5)
Williams
Tolbert
Barner
Reaves
Zordich
I got a feeling that J-Stew gets the "IR'd with a designation to return", allowing Reaves to sneak in after a great showing. His growth was part of the reason they took the risk with Gaffney. Plus Tolbert is the power-back anyway. Zordich sticks as a blocker and for special teams. The youth movement continues as Brockel is replaced with a younger version.
WR (5)
Benjamin
Cotchery
King
Avant
Bersin
King is the other sneaky lock at this point. He’s basically our young mid-round WR pick, that can also stretch the field. Bersin sticks because of his size in-case one of the larger WRs go down. I could see Avant getting cut in favor of King, but that would leave the WR corps too young. Pilares is the odd man out. I don’t see him and King making the roster, plus Barner is very similar with what he brings to the table.
TE (4)
Olsen
Dickson
McNeil
B.Williams
Pretty straight-forward. We carry the extra TE instead of a receiver so we can run more two TE sets. I’m actually looking forward to it.
OL (9)
Bell
Chandler
Kalil
Silatolu
Turner
Velasco
G. Williams
A. Norwell
Unknown roster cut from another team
The starters are set. Bell wins the left, Chandler the right. The depth is terrifying. Norwell makes it over Scott, who barely has the fitness to make it through camp. Velasco is the classic veteran C/G back-up. Williams is there, but I think we find one more back-up tackle. I don't think McDonald (a former Miami back-up) is that guy, and surely there will be a roster cut out there better than him. The answer is not on the roster.
26
DEFENSE
DL (9)
Johnson
Hardy
Addison
Ealy
Horton
Star
Short
Edwards
Cole
I think the Ealy pick, combined with the suspension, combined with the doghouse last year, equals the end for Frank. It doesn’t help that Addison and Horton looked really good when called upon. It’s hard for me to rule out Drake Nevis at DT, but I think the core 4 DTs make it again this year.
LB (6)
Kuechly
Davis
Klein
Blackburn
Williams
Jacobs
Not much to see here. Williams, Jacobs, and Klein will do a lot of special teams work.
CB (5)
Cason
White
Benwikere
Godfrey
Dockery
The staff finally parts ways with Norman, though he could be the next man up for a roster return (i.e. an injury, or if we only carry 2 QBs). I’m interested to see how Godfrey’s ankle is looking during the preseason, and he could be a surprise cut/IR.
S (4)
Decoud
Harper
Lester
Jones
Boston gets a redshirt IR. Everything else is actually pretty set. Jones is a special teams leader.
Specialists (3)
Nortman
Gano
Jansen
We got a pretty nice group here. If only we could get the return game settled.
Injured Reserve
Stewart (with a designation to return)
Boston
Gaydosh (they find another reason again this year; no roster spot for him until Edwards retires next year)
Practice Squad
Lucas- classic practice squad signing
Byndom- in case Godfrey goes down
Foucault- classic practice squad signing
Allen- with few LB options, see how he holds up
Two more spots for other team's cuts
