Remember seeing the list of cuts the past couple of days and saying, "What?? How could Tavarres King/(insert player name here) get cut?" Well, fear not, because many of the guys we liked in the preseason are back on the team's practice squad for the season.
POS | PLAYER | EXP | COLLEGE |
CB | Carrington Byndom | R | Texas |
LB | Adarius Glanton | R | Florida Atlantic |
WR | Tavarres King | 2 | Georgia |
S | Robert Lester | 2 | Alabama |
WR | Marcus Lucas | R | Missouri |
OT | Andrew McDonald | 1 | Indiana |
RB | Darrin Reaves | R | Alabama-Birmingham |
DT | Micanor Regis | 1 | Miami (Fla.) |
LB | D.J. Smith | 3 | Appalachian State |
DT | Casey Walker | 1 | Oklahoma |
Four names stick out: CB Carrington Byndom, DT Casey Walker, S Robert Lester, and the aforementioned WR King. Byndom had a nice training camp and played well when he had the chance in the preseason games. He wasn't quite able to make an impact similar to UDFA CB Melvin White did last year, but showed enough to make the team's practice squad. Same goes for Walker, who had an impressive game last week against the Steelers.
Lester, who played well last year as a call up, has had a rather poor training camp and preseason. The team seems to still believe that he can be a contributor in the future. Perhaps a year on the practice squad can fix some of the poor mechanics he showcased this preseason.
King is perhaps the most surprising. Mainly due to the fact he didn't make the final 53, which might be a bit of a blow to his confidence, but also that he wasn't snatched up by another team. King has shown flashes while on the field, but wasn't able to out stripe fellow WR Brenton Bersin for the final WR spot. Hopefully with another year of experience, he can come out and earn a spot on the final 53 next season (unless he is called up this year which is a possibility).
