College Football Thread 2014 - Week 1

Welcome to College Football 2014!

As we know, Week 1 is Cupcake week, so interesting games are sparse. Nethertheless we've already had a few upsets and there are some intriguing matchups ahead.

On Thursday we saw the No. 9 University of South Carolina get pounded at home against No.21 Texas A&M in an all SEC, aren't we the greatest, matchup.

On Friday we saw the Syracuse need double OT to beat Villanova, which was almost as bad as Vandy losing to Temple on Thursday Night. S-E-C, baby(!).

Saturday kicks off with Penn St vs UCF, which inexplicably is being played in Dublin. Both teams will be looking to finish the season ranked after having solid seasons last year.

So let's look at the big games at the usual breakdown of Noon, 3pm and 8pm:

Kicking off at noon we have No.7 UCLA at Virginia. A good early test on the road for a veteran UCLA squad with a QB expected to be drafted early next year. Virginia will be looking to upset the apple cart and lay down a marker if they want to contend in the ACC.

At 3:30pm we have WVU at No. 2 Alabama. This is almost certainly a mismatch, but WVU generally have talented (if academically ineligible teams!) players and should provide a good early indication of how good the meat grinder aka Alabama, is this year.

At 5:30pm we have the game of the day, No.16 Clemson at No.12 Georgia. Both teams will be breaking in new QBs and both have been college powerhouses recently.

Finally, rounding off the bill at 9pm we have No.14 Wisconsin vs No.13 LSU. Not going to lie, I know nothing about these two teams, I'm just looking at the Power Rankings!

So which games are you looking out for? Who have you got in the highlighted games?
