It's possible the Jets could be looking to move their physically talented WR Stephen Hill. I'm not an advocate of trading for him, but if he hits the market should the Panthers snatch him up? Coming out of Georgia Tech, Hill was considered to possess all the physical tools you could ask for, but had suspect hands and route running. Here is Dan Kadar's scouting report on Hill. He is also strong in run blocking, another positive for a team focused on running the ball and taking shots downfield. Here is his final word on Hill pre draft:
As expected, Hill began ascending up draft boards of Internet websites during the workout process. He's a physical marvel with size and speed. But game film shows an inexperienced route runner with sometimes questionable hands. While he's more Torrey Smith than Darrius Heyward-Bey, there will be some risk in drafting Hill early.
Normally, I'd say to pass on a project. I typically prefer guys with solid route running and hands, but I believe the Panthers have a secret weapon in Ricky Proehl. He could be just what the doctor ordered for the physically talented wideout. It's unclear whether his lack of development with the Jets was due to an inability to understand the concepts being taught, or the Jet's inability to teach them. I don't see Hill necessarily being an All Pro, but with proper tutelage could be a decent option in the passing game.
There's one rub for me, though. I believe the Panther's WR core will ultimately consist of Kelvin Benjamin, Jerricho Cotchery, Jason Avant, Brenton Bersin, Philly Brown and Tavarres King. So would be the odd man out? It comes down to Bersin, Brown and King. Brown is safe thanks to his contributions in the return game. And Bersin is a large-bodied receiver with good control and runs great routes, so he stays too. That leaves King.
At this point, I'd argue King is a better receiver, but Hill has the higher ceiling. Considering neither of these guys are going to see many regular season snaps anyway, I'm more in favor of taking the athletic freak in the hopes he pans out.
So what do you think, CSR? Should Stephen Hill be released, would you rather have him or King?
