Today, the Panthers made a large set of cuts today, letting go of 10 of the 14 required players to reach Tuesday's 75 player limit. Here is a list of the cuts made today:
POS | PLAYER | EXP | COLLEGE |
WR | Tiquan Underwood | 6 | Rutgers |
POS | PLAYER | EXP | COLLEGE |
WR | Toney Clemons | 1 | Colorado |
P | Jordan Gay | 1 | Centre |
DT | Linden Gaydosh | 2 | Calgary |
DE | Alex Hall | 4 | St. Augustine's |
T | Oscar Johnson | 1 | Louisiana Tech |
WR | Marvin McNutt | 2 | Iowa |
LB | Anthony Morales | R | Weber State |
WR | Kealoha Pilares | 4 | Hawaii |
DE |
Craig Roh | 1 |
Michigan |
Perhaps both the most and least surprising move was gutting the WR corps. WR Tiquan Underwood has had a less than underwhelming preseason, and his departure was written on the wall. The same could be said for McNutt and Pilares, as both WR's have been rather quiet this preseason. While that doesn't leave us with a perfect number of WR's on the roster, it should be great news for both Tavarres King and Brenton Bersin, as they both have played extremely well so far, and appear to have won themselves a roster spot.
A couple of other cuts in DE's Alex Hall and Craig Roh weren't all that unexpected either. Hall, the former CFL standout, failed to make any impact in his time on the field. Roh had a similar experience as well, failing to make much happen on the field.
It should also be noted that the release of Pilares likely means WR Philly Brown has won the return duties for the team.
The Panthers still have four cuts left to make before the Tuesday deadline. Who do you think they will be?
