Carolina has one of the top Left Tackles in the league.

According to a former All World offensive lineman, it's this guy right here.

Nate Chandler

You read that right folks, Nate Chandler.

Chandler today got a ringing endorsement from one of the best offensive linemen to ever play the game, Jackie Slater. For those old enough to remember football in the 1980's and early 1990's, you'll remember how dominate Jackie Slater was for the St. Louis Rams during that time frame. It appears Nate Chandler has been working with Slater to hone his skills, and has impressed.

"There's no doubt in my mind he's a top left tackle," said Slater, who spent time working with Chandler over the past two summers.

Here are a few more quotes from the Great One...

"The thing that many underestimate is the tenacity of this individual,"

"He superseded things that were meat and potatoes and went straight to some of the cutting-edge things it takes to be a dominant football player,"

"I'm telling you right now, it's hard for me to imagine there is anybody out there more physically gifted to play -- you name the position [on the line] -- than this young man,"

"If you're going to replace a guy like Jordan Gross, you've got to replace him with a guy who at the very least is on par with him athletically,"

"He's mentally equipped to solve problems, and that's what you have to do to play offensive tackle in this league,"

"He's going to be a good offensive lineman in the National Football League for a very long time."

High praise indeed from someone outside the organization who doesn't really have any ulterior motives to bang the drum for a player. Chandler also got a big endorsement for the Panthers organization themselves when they gave Chandler a 3 year extension this offseason.

Chandler's athleticism and speed make him more suited to the Tackle position than Guard. And while he did an admirable job at right Guard last year, it was evident from watching Preseason and Regular Season games that he is better suited for the outside. If he wins the Left Tackle job this offseason, all is not lost. Chandler will perform.

Now, if they could just fix Byron Bell's vertical set issues, the Carolina Panthers would be good to go.
