1. DE Charles Johnson
This seems a bit overdue for the defenses's highest paid player, who has 54 career sacks over his 7 seasons. Yet beyond the cap hit Johnson has been a true leader on the defense as a three down defensive end who's strength and power is hard to match.
S CB Charles Godfrey
A starter since being drafted in the 3rd round of the 2008 draft, Godfrey will get to demonstrate his leadership ability as he transitions from safety back to CB. Given the youth he will working with his leadership will be a key to the defensive secondary in 2014.
3. LB Chase Blackburn
Though Blackburn has only one season in Charlotte he is a 9 year veteran with a Super Bowl ring on his finger. He is a very emotional player who provides a great example to the younger players.
4. DE Greg Hardy
Hardy is coming off a monster 15 sack and the franchise tag shows the franchise values him. Obviously his recent off the field incident dampens his candidacy as a Captain but I didn't want to remove him from this list given the incident is still playing out.
5. DT Star Lotulelei
We know Star will be a captain at some point, why not go ahead and do it?
