Cam Newton needed off-season surgery to repair his ankle and all the hand-wringing about his timing was for naught. The Panthers quarterback has been cleared to begin his workouts with plenty of time before training camp in Spartanburg.

You can follow Cam's Instagram link for some photos, but the message is what's really important here. It always seemed likely that he would be available for the season, however fans began getting nervous as news-starved outlets criticized the timing of the surgery. The whirlwind of info ran the gamut from it being a poor choice to Newton being "reckless," and letting the team down.
It was all ridiculous. Barring some unforeseen setback No.1 will be playing at the best of his ability come the fall and that is a very exciting prospect. Now the real off-season work can begin and Kelvin Bejnamin can be integrated into the offense.
