The 60 sacks represented a 53% increase from the previous season total of 39. That's a huge increase. When you look at it on a per game basis its an increase from 2.4 per game to 3.75. Again, that's a lot of sacks. FYI...the NFL record for sacks in a season is 72 set by the '84 Bears. Hmmm... so who was a player on that Bears team? Our own Ron Rivera of course.
Simple statistics would suggest that the Panthers will fall short of 60. Yet we know the Panthers not only kept their front seven in tact this offseason they added an explosive rookie to the mix in Kony Ealy. Plus DC Sean McDermott continues to roll out more blitz packages creating more opportunity.
