Ok, gang.... Here's another Over/Under to entertain you for a while... but this one's a little different, based on some things we all observed leading up to the drafting of Kelvin Benjamin at the 28th pick.
I'll give some components of the timeline of events:
March 18th - FSU Pro Day; Benjamin works out, but does not run his 40 yard dash (4.61 at the Combine)
April 7th - Benjamin goes to work out for Philadelphia. Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and the NY Jets have all shown interest in Benjamin as a 1st round pick.
April 10th - A "league source" tells NFL.com's Gil Brandt that Benjamin "blew off" a workout session with an NFL coach who made a "special visit" because he was "too tired". Benjamin's agent denies it, but Brandt stands by his source.
April 16th - Ricky Proehl comes to Tallahassee and works out Benjamin. Based on evidence available, Proehl is the only coach to work out Benjamin after April 10th and the last NFL coach to work out Benjamin.
April 30th - A group of NFL personnel staff polls Benjamin as the 7th rated WR in the class. Charles Davis from NFL.com reports that some "sources" have Benjamin falling to the 2nd round.
May 8th - Benjamin is selected by us with the 28th pick
So.... Benjamin could have just fallen to us based on the draft working itself out on its own. But let's go back to April 10th and the "source".
Could the "source" have been our own Ricky Proehl, with an assist from our GM "Bahston" Dave Gettleman, a highly experienced draftnik who has league-wide cred? Could it be that our brain trust pulled a fast one on the league to ensure that we got our stud 6'5" 240 lb star WR of the future to pair with 6'5" 245 lb star QB Cam Newton? I don't think we ever experienced anything like this in the Hurney era, so this is new to us to even think about.
So.... would you take the Over on us being "the source" on Kelvin Benjamin blowing off the "session".... or are you taking the Under?
