While everyone seems to be focused on the Washington Redskins and whether the team should change it's name or not, it occurs to me that there are other teams with possibly even more offensive names! In the spirit of political correctness, here are a few observations:
1. The Dallas Cowboys - I can't think of a more offensive team name. Just because the people of Dallas are a little overweight they have to refer to them as cows? In reality, there are only a few characteristics that the Dallas players share with bovines, so this name is a horrible injustice. In fact, most cows I know rather dislike Dallas, so...
2. The NY Jets - I saw West Side Story. The Jets were enemies of the Sharks. Why would the NFL want to offend half of the case of an amazing piece of American Theatre, as well as a large population of sea-born predators?
3. The New Orleans Saints - How dare they try to impose their holier-than-thou moral values on me!? So if they're saints then everyone else must be hedonists? I mean, who's to say there's even such a thing as good or evil in the first place? No, I'd say any reference to moral truth is just far too offensive to be allowed.
How about you, CSR readers? Can you think of any other teams that have infringed on your right to not be offended?
PS: I struggled with the idea of putting this entire post in sarcasm font, but that would have been obnoxious!
