Garry Williams to Compete at LT

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

All the flipping between tackle spots between Byron Bell and Nate Chandler appears to be over. The Panthers for the moment anyway prefer Bell on the left side and Chandler on the right. The key has been the return of Garry Williams.

Williams is a versatile lineman who has played at both guard and tackle. With rookie Trai Turner looking good at RG the Panthers can instead have Williams, who played at RG last season, compete with Bell at LT. Williams should welcome the opportunity. If his knee is good he has a good chance of beating out Byron Bell.

It is only mini-camp and a lot can change by September but the Panthers appear content to go with what's on the roster. That means the starting left tackle will most likely be Byron Bell or Garry Williams with Nate Chandler at RT. One other possible option is Williams moving over the RT, which is a position he has some starts. The current line up appears to be a nod to Chandler playing fairly well at RT, or at least I hope so.

I know some of you hold out hope for a free agent solution or a pick up after the first round of cuts. That's a pretty unlikely scenario based on the available talent pool and the Panthers MO, though I offer it as an option in my poll.
