Up until last season the Panthers always took two players from offense, two from defense and two from special teams. Last year they changed it to six total with no limit on what phase of the game is represented. Hence we ended up with four captains from the offense and two from the defense and none from special teams.
In the first fan poll we predicted TE Greg Olsen will be added from the offense to join Cam Newton and C Ryan Kalil. In the second poll we predicted in a landslide that DE Charles Johnson would join LBs Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis.
We really have no idea what the mix might be this season but maybe they will add a special teamer. If so let's try to predict who it might be.
Being a kicker in the NFL is a high pressure job no matter what team you play for. If he can handle that, which he did very well in 2013, I'm sure he can handle being a team captain.
Jones is the Panthers kick coverage ace who leads by example. He is always one of the first down the field and was second on the team in combined ST tackles with 6 (Mario Addison had 8)
LS JJ Jansen
We rarely hear much about Jansen but that is a good thing for a long snapper. If seniority matters then Jansen has plenty of it entering his 6th season with the Panthers.
I offer Nortman for two reasons. First he seems to be very likable guy and popular in the locker room. Second, I just felt like marking out to BW Smith. I know Nortman will get at least one vote...;)
If you don't like these options let me know who I you would prefer in the comments.
