Kelvin Benjamin is a great fit for the Carolina Panthers. He's much than Cooks or. Multitude of other options the Panthers had or could have hoped for. He works for this team. Whether you liked Brandin Cooks more or not, he wasn't a good fit. It's another bit of brilliance from David Gettleman often lost on the masses.
Sure Cooks might be very talented. Hell let's get ridiculous and say he actually is the next Steve Smith. And now he gets to spend at least 3 or 4 or 5 years with one of the greatest qbs of all time. Drew Bree's is one of the mos accurate passers in the history of the game a quick slot guy like Cooks with a hall of famer could very well post career numbers beyond that of Smitty. Smith never had a guy that caliber throwing to him. Cam included. Cooks could have excelled plenty of places. New England, Indy, Green Bay, Denver, to name a few.
The thing is, he's short. Way to short. And as Supermanish as Cam is,he'll never be the pin point thrower the qbs of those towns are. Wes Welker would probably suck here. It's just not Cams game. If you didn't appreciate Cams overthrows these last 3 years then hopefully you weren't really rooting for Cooks. Because here's another thing. Cooks in his prime can't hold Smittys jockstrap in his twilight. Steve needed every bit of athleticism to dominate the way he did. Especially catching subpar passes. Cooks might not be much of an athletic drop off, but when you're THAT short every inch and nanosecond matter. The proof was last year. Steve was still good, but he wasn't Steve Smtih. He was a half step slow. And inch lower when he jumped. And did that expose Steve Smith? Hell no! It exposed Cam. Smitty became just another guy without his former ridiculous super human abilities for Cam to overthrow.
Kelvin Benjamin is not Steve Smith fast. Or quick. He's not Brandin Cooks fast or quick. But he's 6'5. He's a monster. Think he's not a good fit for Cam's arm? Think about this: Greg Olsen was this teams leading receiver last year. Greg Olsen. Greg Olsen isn't Smitty fast. Greg Olsen couldn't out run Smitty if Smitty ran on his knees. Literally. Greg Olsen couldn't out run Jeff Otah after Jeff Otah gave up on football and ate for a living. After watching Greg Olsen turn wide open 10 yard passes into 10 yard gains last year, I'm convinced Jerry Richardson could come down, with or without a new heart, and beat him in a 40. I'm not worried about Kelvin Benjamin. Cam likes size. That makes me like Kelvin more than Cooks, or Lee for that matter. He's the right fit. Oh, btw the guy can block. He's massive. Panthers are a running team. Brandin Cooks, bless his heart, cannot.
I personally wanted Gettleman to swing for the fences. He sure as hell did
