Hardy was involved in an altercation with his girlfriend and charged by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police. There has been no official statement from Hardy or the Panthers at this time. However he was charged with a misdemeanor, which is defined by the state of North Carolina as either an admission of guilt or visible signs of injury shown by the complainant.
This is the second blemish to the Panthers defensive line this off-season with rotational defensive end Frank Alexander being suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the league's substance abuse policy
Hardy's arrest represents the first major off-field altercation the team has had since general manager Dave Gettleman took over in 2013. It's unclear if the arrest will have any further ramification following the drafting of Kony Ealy in this month's draft.
Update: According to Jonathan Jones of the Charlotte Observer, Hardy also was charged with communicating threats. The team has not released a statement at this time.
