I just finished doing my latest Panthers mock draft on FanSpeak, and the results are very positive:
1st Round: TE Eric Ebron-UNC
It was tough to pass up on OT Zach Martin, who I have picked up in previous mocks, but i wanted to see how the rest of the draft would go if I got a weapon for Cam in the 1st. Ebron has the ability and build to be a future Gronk or Graham, and working with Olsen in 2-TE formations, would give defenses headaches from Week 1.
2nd Round: OT Morgan Moses- Virginia
Moses is tough to project as an NFL player as he might only end up being a very solid RT, but im hoping we could develop him into becoming a respectable LT. The Panthers really need to pick up a Tackle in free agency to eliminate the idea of being forced to draft 2 Tackles if its not the BPA.
3rd Round: CB Stanley-Jean-Baptiste-Nebraska
This one of my favourite picks in this mock as its a case of a mid-round talent who fits our scheme perfectly and could start from Day 1. Baptiste is a long (6'3) zone-corner, which is exactly what the Panthers need. He could start at CB #2 next to Antoine Cason and we could have a hugely improved pair of CB's over last year.
4th Round: WR Brandon Coleman-Rutgers
After getting an inside weapon in Ebron, I wanted to get a guy who had the potential to start outside, at 6'0 Coleman has the length and speed to do just that. Wasn't great value, but when i saw a certain South Carolina WR was much further down the board I decided to wait another round to grab him.
5th Round: WR Bruce Ellington-South Carolina
Here he is, by far the best value pick of this mock, Ellington is an explosive WR who contrasts the sure handed veterans (Cotchery, Avant) we have picked up recently. Grabbing both Ellington and Coleman will lead to a mad chase for roster spots for guys like King, McNutt and Pilares.
6th Round: G Kadeem Edwards-Tennessee State
As the Panthers haven't resigned Travelle Wharton yet (still hoping) some Guard depth is needed. Both Silatolu and Kugbila will be back this season, but I'd prefer to have Edwards as depth than a converted DT.
7th Round: S Issiah Lewis-Michigan State
In the last round or 2 you need to forget about needs and take the best player on your board, it just so happens the BPA filled a need.
What do you think about this mock? What would you change?
