My 'I have an NFL Draft dream speech'

James Lang-US PRESSWIRE

My speech isn't so seismic as the iconic MLK nor does my dream involve actually playing in the NFL. That ship has obviously long sailed. No, my NFL Draft dream is simply to attend the draft at some point.

It was one of the primary reasons I started this blog, in hopes it would pay my way there. Well that may not happen directly so I'm planning on attending as a regular fan. This all came to thought today because the NFL just released their rules for attendance. I won't be going this year but I'm really thinking next year is my year. So let's all make a pact to have a CSR meet up at the 2015 draft okay?

Now if I was going this year here is how I would plan for these rules. My comments are bold in parentheses.

NFL ANNOUNCES FAN GUIDELINES FOR ATTENDING 2014 NFL DRAFT AT

RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL

The NFL announced procedures for fans wishing to attend the 79th NFL Draft on Thursday-Saturday, May 8-10 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. (Wishing is right!)

The NFL Draft returns to primetime with Round 1 slated for 8:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, May 8. Rounds 2 and 3 will be held on Friday, May 9 beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET. Rounds 4-7 will be held on Saturday, May 10 beginning at 12 p.m. ET. (I'm not sure I could handle all three days but at least two. I might have to train in advance to handle three days :P )

The NFL Draft is a free event, however seating is very limited. The "All Clear" bag policy will be in effect for all fans who enter Radio City Music Hall. More information about the "All Clear" bag policy can be found here. ( I love that it is free but I wonder how early you have to show up to get a seat? ...see below...)

Night 1 Procedures:

All persons wishing for an opportunity to attend the Draft on Thursday, May 8 should obtain a wristband on the evening of Wednesday, May 7 on the 50th Street side of Radio City Music Hall. Wristband distribution will begin at 7:00 p.m. (Geez so now I have to get there early Wed afternoon) Wristbands to secure a ticket for entry into the Draft on Thursday will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to all individuals in line. All persons wishing to attend the Draft must be present in order to receive a wristband and will be required to register and provide contact information on-site. No exceptions will be made. (Does 'contact info' include a credit card #?)

Fans who receive the wristbands then may line up for entry into the Draft beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8 at which time they will receive their ticket indicating their seat location. Tickets will be distributed at random. Doors open at 6:40 p.m. Fan entry will take place at the "Carriage Door Entrance" located on 50th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. (Is 'Carriage Door' code for 'pond scum' I wonder?)

Night 2 Procedures:

All persons wishing to attend the Draft on Friday, May 9 may obtain a wristband beginning at 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8 on the 50th Street side of Radio City Music Hall. Wristbands to secure a ticket for entry into the Draft on Friday will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to all individuals in line. All persons wishing to attend the Draft must be present in order to receive a wristband and will be required to register and provide contact information on-site. No exceptions will be made. (What if I'm drunk by 10pm that night I wonder?)

Fans who receive the wristbands then may line up for entry into the Draft beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9 at which time they will receive their ticket indicating their seat location. Tickets will be distributed at random. (So if I went with friends we would not be sitting together? Wouldn't you want to keep the Jets fans away from...well everybody else?) Doors open at 5:40 p.m. Fan entry will take place at the "Carriage Door Entrance" located on 50th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues.

In addition to the above procedures, fans may reserve their tickets in advance to attend the Night 2 of the Draft on Friday, May 9 by visiting here. (Seems like the way to go.)

Day 3 Procedures:

Entry into Day 3 of the Draft will occur on a first-come, first-served basis when doors open at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 10. Fan entry will take place at the "Carriage Door Entrance" located on 50th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues.

In addition to the above procedures, fans may reserve their tickets in advance to attend Day 3 of the Draft on Saturday, May 10 by visiting here.

Additional Experiences:

Night 1 will feature potential 2014 NFL Draft picks.

Night 2 of the Draft will feature potential 2014 NFL Draft picks, NFL Legends and other special guests at the podium. Round 2 of the Draft, presented by Bud Light, will feature legendary NFL alumni of all 32 teams making picks at the podium. (So I wonder who will make a pick for the Panthers?)

Day 3 will feature player and cheerleader appearances, interactive exhibits and chances to win great prizes. Dress up as your team's "Biggest Fan" and participate as part of the NFL Network and ESPN live TV audiences. It also will be the last opportunity of the weekend to see the Lombardi Trophy and a collection of Super Bowl rings on display. (Dress up? Probably not.)

Day 3 also will feature special programming for youth football players, their parents and coaches. This will include an exclusive opportunity to ask former NFL players and experts from USA Football questions about reaching their goals and how the game is being played better and safer than ever through Heads Up Football. To register your team to attend Day 3, click here.

A collectable pin set will be given to fans attending the Draft, with a unique collectible pin in the official Draft goodie bag for those who attended all three days. (Now we are talking!)

Security screening at Radio City Music Hall will be significantly heightened for the 2014 NFL Draft. All items carried by fans will be carefully inspected and potentially not allowed into Radio City Music Hall. Extra time should be allotted for entry as all fans will be subjected to additional security procedures upon entry. The "All Clear" bag policy will be in effect so each fan will be able to carry the following style and size bag, package, or container into the venue:

· A bag that is clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and does not exceed 12" x 6" x 12." OR a One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar) and

· A small clutch bag, approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap.

· An exception will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at an entrance designated for this purpose.

Please visit http://www.nfl.com/draft for more details on screening procedures and a full list of prohibited items.

Held in New York City since 1965, the NFL Draft will be televised nationally by NFL Network and ESPN. This is the ninth consecutive year that the Draft will be held at Radio City Music Hall.
