It's finally official! Quarterback Cam Newton will stay a Carolina Panther until at least the 2015 season, after the team picked up his fifth year option, according to a tweet from NFL Network's Albert Breer.
This move won't have a financial impact in 2014, as Newton will continue to play under his original rookie contract that is set to pay him a base salary of $3.38 million and a signing bonus of $3.6 million. However, his salary will increase to $14.67 million in 2015. The Panthers can also still negotiate a long-term deal with Newton as he plays under this option.
