Fanspeak Mock Draft

Im a long time CSR follower but this my first time posting and what better way to start it off this time of year with a mock draft!! This is a 7 round mock draft with the Fanspeak rankings. Let me know what you think. So without further ado...

ROUND 1

28) WR Odell Beckham Jr.-LSU

Coming in at 6'0 tall he has the size we have been looking for in a receiver for a while now. He had a great combine running a 4.43 40 yard dash and a vertical of 38 1/2. Beckham runs smooth crisp routes which allows him to separate from defenders. He's not going to be the best jump ball receiver but he doesn't shy away from contact and his 10" hands allow him to pull the ball away from defenders.

ROUND 2

60) OT Antonio Richardson-Tennessee

After the retirement of Jordan Gross we now have a glaring need for tackle and Bryron Bell is not the answer and nor is the answer on the current roster. Gettleman loves "hog mollies" and Richardson is that to the fullest. Nicknamed "Tiny" he weighed in at 336 pounds at the combine and put up an outstanding 36 reps of 225 pounds. With long arms, broad shoulders, and tree trunks for legs I can see him protecting Cam Newtons blind side for a long time.

ROUND 3

92) WR Jarvis Landry-LSU

This is my favorite pick of my entire mock draft cause I believe that Landry can be maybe the 3rd best receiver coming out of this draft behind Watkins and Evans. Landry is the same height as his college counterpart Odell Beckham Jr. He as well is a excellent route runner and that is big for young receivers and for Cam to know where his pass catchers are going to be when he is under pressure. Jarvis Landry is extremely tough and will not go down without a fight, something I think we are going to need to since losing Steve Smith.

ROUND 4

128) CB Marcus Roberson- Florida

This pick was the Best Player Available but also covers need. Roberson earlier in the year was projected to go as early as the 2nd round so at this point in the draft I believe he is a steal. He is little slow for a cornerback running a 4.61 at the combine and a 4.69 at his pro day. What I like about Roberson is that he has good arm length that he uses to disrupt receivers at the line of scrimmage. I just think he needs to put on a few extra pounds and work on his technique a bit.

ROUND 5

168) CB Aaron Colvin- Oklahoma

Yes I know this might a bit to early to take him and I don't like the idea of taking corners with back to back picks but with most of our defense pretty much set we need to fill in positions of need at CB along with saftey. Colvin was a boarder line 1st rounder until tearing his ACL in the Senior Bowl practice. Colvin has a outstanding football IQ that allows him the undercut routes to make plays on the ball(similar to Captain Munnerlyn) and is also a fast blitzer. Since drafting Roberson and with Melvin White, Antoine Cason, James Dockery, and Josh Norman there is no rush for him to be on the field Week 1.

ROUND 6

204) TE Joe Don Duncan- Dixie State

Does this guy remind you of Gronk or what?! He has excellent size at 6'3 and is as strong as a bull according to his 35 reps of 225 pounds at the combine. Granted he did play for Division ll Dixie State Red Wave but in order to get the attention of NFL scouts while playing Dll you must dominate and that is exactly what he did. Duncan caught 71 passes for 1,045 and 13 touchdowns. The Panthers don't have a legitimate #2 TE on the roster to run two TE sets so this would be a instant upgrade in my mind. He might not be Eric Ebron, who everyone is wanting, but hey he might be better.

ROUND 7

225) OT Justin Britt- Missouri

At this point in the draft you are just looking to fill holes. Justin Britt has a solid build and can recognize the blitz well. I believe he is best suited to be the right tackle on this Panthers team. He also played every position on the o-line at Missouri so if he doesn't start he can be a very good backup.

This Mock Draft may not be the greatest but I think that was extremely successful and could lead us back into the playoffs. Getting Beckham and Landry gives us the consistency and familiarity the organization is always talking about with the offense. Drafting Richardson and Britt could solidify the tackle spot for a few years because we need to what Kugbila and Silatolu are. Roberson and Colvin are very solid picks to hold down the secondary until we have cap space to maybe get a true #1 CB. Running the two TE set could be very succesful for us with Joe Don Duncan and Greg Olsen.

Please leave your comments and let me know what you think. Im excited to get feedback on my very first CSR Fanpost!!
