Last week I came to you all asking for your help. See my son has a horrible disease called SMA type 1. It is the number one killer of all children under two years of age. Due to his disease he has to go through a lot of medical treatments DAILY. He goes through so much. Now with that being said, he does have a good time after he has all of his morning and evening treatments. His mother and I make sure of that. He is a happy little boy. I think because of his limitations, he is more happy when he is able to do something, then a child who does not have to work for it. He has mastered his DVD remote control, and therefore controls his tv by himself! He has mastered his I-Pad, and can teach the creators a thing or two on it! He is so smart. Because of his disease however, he has a very large curve foreword, and to the side in his spine. He is to have back surgery to correct this, but before he can he has to compleat six infusions to make his bones strong enough to hold the screws and bolts. Because of his disease his bones are translucent and weak. So to have the surgery now would not help as his bones would not hold the hardware needed to straighten his spine. I hope that answers a few of the questions some have. Also, because of his age, and disease, doctors do not like to do the surgery unless it comes to the point of where the curving is causing damage to his lungs, or causes other medical problems. Jackson is now at that point with his ribs bring turned and the pain his spine is causing him. For that reason, we wanted to buy a van that we could fit his special car seat in so he would not hurt anymore, or at lease not as much when going to his doctors appointments. I asked if you all would want to help by buying tee-shirts from a Fundraiseing site called Booster. The shirts are $25 and I receive $16 per shirt sold. I set a goal of 100 shirts, but Booster has a policy I did not know about till after I set everything up, that a min of 20 shirts must be sold before they would print the shirts! Man I was worried to say the least!! So I came on this site a lot to try and keep the story at the head of all posts so people would be able to read it. I contacted Jaxon, and James by email to ask if they would front page my post, (which they did for a few days, and I went on other peoples posts to share the story there. It worked! I am now six days away from the end of the fundraiser, and have now sold 18 shirts! That's only two away!! I was so worried because I did not know how I was going to buy 13 shirts so that the people who bought seven could get there shirts. I prayed, and did a lot of typing! But now I am only two shy of the twenty needed to sell before they print the shirts. And if they don't sell, I can buy the last two myself from the cash donations I received from three CSR readers. I received two letters from Mr.Gross, And Mr. Mainor each with $100 in them. I also was contacted by a CSR reader we all know by a pin name, but wanted to be nameless, but then said I could use there real name after I asked to do so to put in this post, because it means so much to me to be able to thank everyone. That person is Drew. Drew is amazing because he is sending a $50 donation from 15,000 miles away (haha inside joke), but really, he is sending it from over 4,000 miles away! He also contacted the Panthers to see if they would be able to help. He has not heard back from them, but that would be so nice, and a blessing if they could! Well I am no where near the 100 shirt goal, but I did as of today sell 18 shirts, and some people on the site after buying shirts also donated. I have raised $198 in donations from you all, plus what I will receive from the shirts. So to all who bought a shirt, I say from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU! And I wanted to send a special Thank you to James who bough 6 shirts himself!! Amazing!! I don't know how to thank you all enough for the kindness you have all shown, I have received so many words of inspiration, and condolences. And only one person was a little tactless talking about my 16yo son I told you about in the post I made. So to that person, if you have children, I pray nothing ever happens to your child, and then you have read what someone says to you about that child the way you did to me. I won't mention your name, but you know who you are as you were the only one who did such a thing. But to everyone else, I am so grateful. I can never repay you all for the way you all have made me feel, and the kindness you have shown. I will continue to work on getting Jackson the Van we need, and I will keep you all posted on how it's going, and when we are finally able to buy one. Thank you all again, from the bottom of my heart, And may God bless you all, Jimmy Powell
