2014 NFL Free Agency: Panthers sign WR Jerricho Cotchery

The Panthers have added a veteran to the wide receiver corps by signing Jerricho Cotchery to a two year contract.

The Panthers have finally brought in a free agent wide receiver. According to multiple reports, the Panthers have agreed to terms with free agent Jerricho Cotchery on a two year contract. The financial terms of the deal are currently undisclosed, but according to a tweet from his agent he has agreed to with Carolina.

Cotchery, 31, is a 10 year veteran who has played for both the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers. While he is nowhere near the caliber of Steve Smith, who signed with the Baltimore Ravens after being released by Carolina last week, he did put up decent numbers in the Steel City last season when he logged 46 receptions for 602 yards and 10 touchdowns. He won't fill all of Carolina's holes on offense in 2014, but if he can provide similar results to his 2013 numbers he would be a nice addition to a team in desperate need of bodies at the wide receiver position.

Panthers GM Dave Gettleman still has work to do in order to field a competent offense for Mike Shula and Ron Rivera in 2014, but adding Cotchery is the first step in the process of rebuilding the team after losing several players to free agency.

Stay tuned to CSR for more information on this deal and any other future free agent signings as it becomes available.
