Hello everyone, so far this offseason has been a disappointment. Here is a mock draft to get everyone optimistic for the season!
1st) Brandin Cooks WR Oklahoma State - 5'9" 185 lbs
If there ever were another Steve Smith (which sound real good right now), Cooks is it. He plays with the same fearlessness, despite being so small. He ran a blazing 4.33 forty yard dash, and had the best times for the 3 cone and the other agility related combine tests. He wont be able to replace Smitt's passion, but he will be a great WR
2nd) Donte Moncreif WR Ole Miss - 6'3" 227 lbs
Last year Gettleman double dipped on DT's, this year he does so on WR's. Moncreif is a huge sleeper right here. I cannot figure out why he has a 2-4 round grade. He has great size, ran a 4.4 forty yard dash, 39.5 inch vertical. He and Cooks would form a amazing duo for Cam to throw to, a big upgrade over the current duo of King and McNutt.
3rd) Stanley Jean-Babtiste CB Nebraska - 6'3" 218 lbs
WHAT? We need an offensive tackle why pick a corner back?! First off, Gettleman has already proven he will draft the BPA, which SJB is. Dont forget, we still need a secondary, and he could be like Sherman (minus the loud mouth stuff). CBS compares him to Brandon Browner, which i see as what he will most likely become. The panthers need to add some physicality in the secondary and do so with this pick.
4th) Cyril Richardson OG Baylor - 6'5" 329 lbs
Talent is too good to pass up here, and the panthers dont want to rely on 2 injure prone gaurds going into the season. His stock was way up to the first round earlier in the year, but he has dropped all the way down to a 3-4 grade and will probably continue to drop, If somebody knows why he is dropping, please let me know because i can not figure it out. He is a big mauler, or "hog-mollie" that Gettleman seems to like on the interior of the line. He can instantly become a starter and is another steal in the draft
5th) Seantrel Henderson OT Miami - 6'7" 331 lbs
This seems to be the only unlikely pick in this mock draft. The panthers usually steer clear of any player with off-field issues, but with the new Gettleman regime, hopefully that will change. Henderson is a first round talent, no doubt about it, but his character concerns will prevent him from being drafted that high. I felt a lot better about this pick when Gross was still likely to come back, but Henderson is a huge value here. He is a massive man, with great strength and he also is pretty quick off the snap, so he doesnt get beat by speed rushers easily. Once he engages the block, the defender is pretty much done for the play. A left side of him and Cyril would be a nasty side of a line since both have elite strength and toughness
6th) Matt Patchan OT BC 6'6" 302 lbs
Would probably be a 2nd rounder if not for his injury history, although he has been pretty unlucky. He missed a chunk of games because he got shot, that is not something likely to happen again. Could compete with Bell to start at RT and could win the position battle.
7th) Anybody really
Some boom or bust picks on the o-line, hopefully they work out and become solid players in the NFL.
QB - Cam
Back field - Stewart & Tolbert
WR - Cooks - Moncreif - Lafell (put Cooks in slot when 3 on field)

D Line (L to R) - Hardy - Star - Short - Johnson
LB (L to R) - Klein - Kuechly - Davis

Safeties - Godfrey - Harper/Lester
Let me know what y'all think of my first mock draft of the offseason!
