The WR position...

This topic is not going away any time soon, and I need to vent somewhere. I'm a little bit confused on what exactly Gettlemen is doing.
Hakeem Nicks - 56 Receptions, 896 yards, and yes... 0 Tds Steve Smith - 64 Receptions, 749 yards, and 4 Touchdowns
Smith has declined, but what on earth makes Gettlemen think that Nicks can fill the shoes of Steve Smith. Take stats out of it WRs are a dime a dozen, WRs and QB relationships like Cam and Smith have is one in a million. A good WR and QB relationship can extend a players career and make age look like just a number. Why would you want to start over with all new WRs, no true veteran leader, and ruin a bond and trust that Cam has built with Smith coming off of a 12-4 season?
My second topic is Ted Ginn like Mike Mitchell on defense he made a massive impact to our team last year he was our burner, return man, and honestly he was our only playmaker outside of Smith and Olsen. Ginn averaged 15 yards a catch and had 5 touchdowns, and came at a steal of a price. How has Ginn even been allowed to touch the open market? He would come again at a song of a price, and be able to produce instantly. I would take Ginn over James Jones, and Jacoby Jones who will both have more money thrown at them then Ginn.
Now Nicks makes for a great replacement to Lafell, same kind of player but obviously the upside lies with Nicks. So if you want to sign Nicks go ahead obviously we need WRs, but if you want to rip our leader away and bring in Nicks as our veteran who has been a locker room cancer, and drop ball machine in New York it makes no sense. There isn't a number one WR on this market, and there won't be one when we pick at 28... Don't try to make something out of nothing because that's when stuff backfires. We had Keyhawn we cut him for Jarrett... We lost Moose we replaced him with?...
Smith brings safety to our WR position if other options fail you still have reliable Smith... If you lose Smith, and you don't find a diamond in the rough in the draft, and Nicks looks like the player he has been for the last 3 years... Your looking at a 6-10 season. This franchise has neglected getting Smith help for years, and wore him past his prime now your finally in the market for another WR and Smith might get cut... I just don't get it, and this is not from just a fan perspective. Business wise it makes no sense either, take your weakest position, cut your best player at that position and owe him 9 million in dead money... And yet let Ginn walk as we'll...
My question to you is this... Do you honestly believe that a player like Nicks, Decker, or Benjamin could even come close to replacing Smith this season?
